This work investigates the effects of strontium addition on the microstructure, phase formation, and mechanical properties of an extruded Al–15Mg₂Si composite. Sr additions up to 2 wt.% modified the Mg₂Si particles and promoted the formation of Al₂Si₂Sr, resulting in a hybrid composite microstructure with improved mechanical properties. Among the investigated compositions, the addition of 2 wt.% Sr provided the best strength–ductility synergy and increased tensile toughness by approximately 30% compared with the base composite. Higher Sr additions led to the formation of coarse needle-shaped intermetallic particles and consequently reduced ductility and work-hardening capability.
